Anchorage Daily News calls for Therriault to step down

By Anchorage Daily News

Former state Sen. Gene Therriault should follow former Rep. Nancy Dahlstrom's example and resign his position as Gov. Sean Parnell's special energy adviser. That's because Gov. Sean Parnell clearly violated the spirit -- and quite possibly the letter -- of a provision in the Alaska Constitution that prohibits the appointment of sitting legislators to other state jobs.

In both cases, the governor got around that provision with semantic technicalities -- hiring legislators for jobs that don't "exist" until after the lawmakers resigned. As we've said before, this is nonsense at best, contempt for the constitution at worst.

Yes, the governor had legal opinions that said he could do what he did. But Dan Sullivan, his own attorney general, took a longer look after critics like radio talk-show host Dan Fagan began criticizing the appointments. That led to a second, more carefully considered opinion, which found an "appreciable risk" that a court would find a violation of the law in the Dahlstrom appointment.

OH dear---"I'Have agreed with the ADN?'   Never.....

However, Terriault finally stepped up and resigned, as he should have done,

just after Gov. Parnell defended his stance on his hiring. Yes, I have read the documents carefully too.

NOW----we have a man in THE CHAIR , an attorney,  who caused this tr agic fiasco and despicable act against the LAW of ALASKA>---not once, but twice. Would we dare trust again??? NO

It is NOW Parnell's turn and time to be an above board and honest MAN: STEP out of the race NOW with a tad of grace left.  You are worthy of prayers, but not a vote for Governor of ALASKA.

To continue  running for Governor  now, after You have become a weakened embarrassment to all good men and women of this state, will be a graver error of judgement.-Have you been hiding in your two chairs for near 4 years and pulling other such acts? Be a man, you can... pull out now..

Sneaky, bad behavior is not acceptable in children ,and is totally unacceptble in an adult in high office.

Broke the law twice. Yes, Therriault should resign as Dahlstrom did. If Alaskans have determined it is ok for the Governor to break the law, he should at least admit it. I think it is wrong. The law is the law. He took an oath to uphold the law. NOT just when no one is watching.

I was very dissapointed with Ramras' reponse to Fagan asking him whether Parnell broke the law.  I must rethink who to vote for Lt Governor.  Although I understand Treadwell didn't do any better.
