Obama administration blocks offshore drilling in Alaska while promoting it in Brazil

Shortly after taking office, the Obama administration, with the tacit support of our newly elected Boy Senator, Mark Begich, put a six-month halt on oil and natural gas exploration off the Alaska coast. The most prominent location was the Chukchi Sea, which held a federal lease sale in early 2008, bringing lease revenues worth $2.1 billion to the US Treasury. The Chukchi Sea alone is thought to hold reserves of over 15 billion barrels of oil and over 77 trillion cubic feet of natural gas – or the equivalent of what was thought to reside in Prudhoe Bay. It is also about the amount of oil and natural gas removed from the Gulf of Mexico since the late 1940s. The Chukchi Seal alone is a huge prospect for Alaska and the nation.
The six month hold was described as a way that the Department of the interior, now under the complete control of the leftists and radical greens, could study the development plans and make sure they didn’t harm the local wildlife, resident vermin, lichens, and assorted varieties of pond scum. Don’t expect approval to drill any time soon – unless of course you are properly connected to the current administration (which I will describe later in this article).
What do I mean by that? Better yet, where in the world is it acceptable with this administration to drill for oil and natural gas? Would you believe Brazil?
The US Export Import Bank, now controlled by Obama appointees announced last week a $2 billion loan to Petrobras, the nationally owned oil company of Brazil. The loans will be used help start oil and natural gas development in a newly discovered and huge oil and natural gas field off the east coast of Brazil.
Consider the irony here: Americans are prohibited from developing their own resources off the east coast of the US; the west coast of the US; offshore Alaska; and throughout existing lands in the American West (Interior Secretary Salazar withdrew a large number of natural gas leases shortly after taking office). Yet the Obama administration can guarantee the loan of American tax dollars for Brazil to develop their own resources, all while the price per gallon of gasoline coasts past $3.10/gal here in Anchorage. The loan guarantee was first reported in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on Thursday.
Interestingly enough, the loan guarantees were not a surprise to one investment house, as democrat financier and large dollar sugar daddy George Soros somehow got wind of the future business opportunity. Ed Morrissey writing in Hot Air last Tuesday reported that Soros Fund Management, LLC sold 22 million shares of Petrobras common stock in exchange for nearly 6 million shares of Petrobras preferred stock. This repositioning – all of which took place a few days before the Ex-Im Bank announced the loan guarantee, stands to make the Soros Hedge Fund a significant dividend as Pertobras develops its field. Insider trading, anyone?
Apparently with these democrats, taking care of your friends is ever so much more important than taking care of your country. And yes, I am questioning their patriotism – along with their morality, integrity, veracity and manhood.

Do a little research and get your facts straight.
1. The Export Import Bank does not rely on tax payer $$. It makes loans with the express interest in having the $$ be used in purchasing US goods and services. "The mission of the Bank is to create and sustain U.S. jobs by financing sales of U.S. exports to international buyers...the current congressional mandate for the Export-Import Bank of the United States is to focus on small business support" As a country we get goods bought from us, providing jobs and balancing the trade deficit. The loans are repaid with interest. Why do you hate America?
2. The current administration had to step back from the Chukchi development because it was done improperly and shoved through the approval process. Information and data was withheld in the process. There are lawsuits that are working their way through the courts. This is an very important environment for "Pond Scum" and Alaskans who live there and industries that rely on an that pond scum and development must be done correctly. As an Alaskan I can't bring myself to just trust the oil companies.

I think you may have a difference of opinion on what it is to be taking care of our country. And so you question Obama's patriotism? really? Anyone who disagrees with you is suddenly unpatriotic. To me that is the most unpatriotic and unamerican of positions. Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.
As to your morality, who cares?
As to your integrity, the consistency of your actions and values over time? Where were you guys with our upset about insider trading and the giveaways to the oil industry during the Bush years? Petrabras now has to use that $$ and spend it on USA companies that will employ USA citizens. It involves US in the development of this important field and more importantly is the big issue is the international relations and competion for this oil. China has loaned them money and they are positioning themselves to gain access to the oil. We went to war in Iraq b/c the Chinese were about to gain the rights to help develop the iraqi oil fields. This loan seek to check the Chinese in a little more diplomatic fashion than the last administration.

So far the oil companys have offered Alaska a great economy, a savings account, pays taxes, donates, and lessons Americas dependance on forgien oil. Now what was it that the government was offering?
The stimulus, which economist are now saying pulled us away from the brink of a new depression, was voted for by the Congress. Cap and trade is being debated and health-care is being debated. The Bush administration delayed findings and withheld information to ensure that the leases would go through. You seem to forget, it is still America, you just lost the last election and this is what Americans wanted this administration to do.

Furthermore we own the resource that is the oil. They oil companies could care less about Alaska. We let them make amazing profits and pay $4 for gas and 4.80 for heating fuel. The oil companies don't care if we are dependant on foreign oil they make money either way. If you haven't noticed half the companies are from other coutries. They develop the fields elsewhere that they sell to us. They could care less.
Get the socialist, democrates, off the backs of hard working Americans. Cut trees, dig for minerals, drill for gas and oil. Put America back to work now. The Democrats sold us down the river again, In 2008 the Democrats whanted the energy vote from the people and they got it. Then as usual they sold out the nations vote to over seas oil while shutting down domestic drilling and exploration.

Mark Begich is no friend of Alaska. Begich and his new buddies will get rich, I wonder if Begich is invested with Soros? I thought that Begich was suppose to RESPECT Alaska's constitution?
