An Open Letter To Anchorage Assembly Chairwoman, Debbie Ossiander.

By Dave Bronson
Board Chairman
Alaska Family Council

Madam Chair,

All of us have friends, family or children who self-identify as homosexual, bisexual or transgendered. While we sympathize with their challenges however in no way does this ordinance protect anyone from the taunts and ridicule of ignorant people. No legislation ever can.

This ordinance, as written, is a dream ordinance for the likes of Congressman Barney Frank who has been pushing the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA) for nearly 15 years at the national level. Indeed, AO 64 has none of the protections for small businesses, churches, and individuals that are included in ENDA. Do you really believe that Anchorage is so liberal as compared to the rest of the nation that it should write into its municipal code provisions that are so pernicious for the business and religious communities?

This Assembly has stated publically it places great faith in the municipal attorney's office assurances that this ordinance provides protections of the freedoms of expression, association and religion when that very municipal attorney's office states it "...does not have special expertise in "Sexual Orientation" discrimination." This blind and ignorant faith flies in the face of clear assertions by national organizations who do have "special expertise in ‘Sexual Orientation" discrimination law” when they assert that AO 64 provides nearly unrestricted authority to the likes of the ACLU to financially cripple organizations such as Catholic Social Services, Later Day Saints Social Services and others by entangling them in ruinous lawsuits.

Madam Chair, when Catholic Social Services (CSS) and Latter Day Saints Social Services cease operations because their faith compels them to adopt children to heterosexual couples only... you, personally, will be to blame. When religious schools close their doors because in obedience to their faith they simply cannot allow practicing homosexuals or transsexuals to teach their children... you, personally, will be to blame. I wonder why you think Anchorage is now such an evil city that it must undergo such a radical transformation just to assuage your guilt that someone you may know and care about is being treated terribly by someone who is simply exercising their right to be ignorant. Mind you, your ignorance, demonstrated by a vote for AO 64 will be far more harmful to many more individuals that you can imagine... and you, personally, will be to blame. Whether you intend these catastrophic consequences to happen or not is simply meaningless. The language in AO 64 is clear and it will cause exactly what I have articulated.

Madame Chair, events have conspired to make this vote the singular defining moment of your long public career...whether you like it or not. You have but one opportunity to define your political legacy. You will reaffirm the common understanding that Anchorage is, politically, a center-right city with a long history of acceptance and accommodation or it is and has been an ugly place where the downtrodden get trodden upon and where the weak have been terribly persecuted. But if you vote for this ordinance, you will most definitely create a new and very large class of the downtrodden, the weak who will survive only at the whim of the extreme political left. I wonder, who does more good for our city, our society... the churches, the religious schools, Catholic Social Services, LDS Social Services... or the ACLU? I teach my children they should choose their friends carefully because it is that choice of friends which ultimately defines them. Choose well Madam Chair… the churches, the schools, the adoption agencies… or the ACLU.

In closing I must ask one question. We all know that AO64 was written by Jeffery Mittman and his ACLU. We all know that if this ordinance passes he will be hailed in the halls of the extreme left as no less than 'The Man Of The Year.' We all know that the Assembly is pushing this extreme ordinance to a vote prior to an elected mayor taking office for fear of his veto. Understanding all this Madam Chair, why are YOU doing the dirty work for the ACLU?

Sincerely,

Dave Bronson
Board Chairman

Just because they are not like US we dont need to chase them away evey time we see one!

Pretty good!

Bears are safe.  Never worried when one was around.

Same for homosexuals.  However, they are so much fun to bait, where the bear figures it out and moves on. . .

Mr. Bronson has legitimate concerns.

This is not about constitutional rights or discrimination.  This is about an abhorrant agenda.

No discrmination under the law.

Not good enough.

Equality under the law never will be.

Time for another Great American Revolution.

Is this haiku?  It makes no sense in any language I'm familiar with.

Guess I will never make it as a poet.

I do have the daito katana, circa 1943, and have studied kendo, karate, etc.  Does that count?

No discrimination against homosexuals under the law.  How is that, Al?

Clear enough?

Mr. Bronson is apparently one of the least informed individuals in Anchorage. The ordinence protects religous organizations from having to hire gay, lesbian or bisexual individuals as it is against their reliegion and they have that right. Try arguing with your facts in line Mr. Bronson then see if you have a leg to stand on!

Do I think their belief system is right? No I don't - but they have every right to have that belief and this ordinance protects them as much as it does our gay, lesbian and bisexual brother and sisters.

 If over 450 diffrent species of animals like to have sex with the same sex. Why can't humans?

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=gay-animals-and-evolution

I read SA.  Have for a long time.

". . . Its been observed a lot . . . " is hardly a scientific assessment.

There are no "gay" animals, otherwise, that species would suffer a decline in population.

Homosexuality is an evolutionary DEAD END.

Too, is that behavior a response to pheromones, the time of year, what's in the water--estrogen by the boat load, btw, not to mention a whole lot of drugs we flush daily.

Yeah, my dog is happy.  "Gay" is a distortion of the meaning when applied to homosexuals.

This battle is not about civil rights or protecting anyone.  It is about power and about privilege.  Another protected class.  Hear no evil, speak no evil,see no evil, or go to jail if you say the wrong thing to the wrong person.  BS.

Go to Russia if you want that.  Or, Canada.  They have to watch what they say.  No 1st Amendment there.

Nowhere in the Constitution is there any provision for being offended.  This is about being offended and it is an emotional  response, not legal.

There is no discrimiantion under the law, otherwise, folks, cite chapter and verse.

Gays can lose their job or their home just for being gay.  They can be refused service just for being Gay.  They do not have the same protection under the law that other minorities enjoy.  A Black man can't be discriminated against, unless he's also Gay, then he can.

Yes this is about being offended.  But it's not the Gay community that is "offended".  It's Religious zealots and homophobes that are offended.  They are the ones making the emotional and religious arguments.  There is no legitimate reason to deny homosexuals the same protections that others receive.

Are you in favor of rescinding the Civil Rights Act of 1965?

Gay Rights - A Father's Testimony

Well, show me the fire hoses, the restrooms marked heteros only, homosexuals here, we don't serve homosexuals, etc.

Give it a rest.

Like I have previously posted, when my kids were very young, we were denied renting a particular property because the owner did not want young children in their rental.  I know that I have been discrminated against because of my age and partial permanent disability.  I was actually told to lie about my situation to prospective employers by voc rehab.  That's called . . . fraud.  So, I do my own thing, and pain is part of the price.  So what?  Just life.  My cards.  So I play them and am thankful that things are not worse, as I know people who are truly messed up.

I do know that the ADN's lesbian reporter was interviewed by Fagan and admitted that there have been investigations by the feds, state, and muni at various times regarding alleged discrimination, and not once has any violation of the law been discovered.

As a former muni employee, I know what the muni policies are.  Gov't is very unforgiving to those who insult one of the rainbow crowd.  Poor babies.

JUST BECAUSE THERE IS A POSSIBILITY DOES NOT MEAN THAT THERE NEEDS TO BE A BAR AGAINST THE POSSIBILITY.

Life is a bitch and unfair.

You can either go through life with a chip on your shoulder believing that you are demeaned in every wayward glance or look by those you meet.  Or, you can ignore them and get on with your life.

Wow.

I'm offended.  Mommy Ossiander, please make Johnny quit thinking he doesn't like me!  I know he must be thinking he doesn't like me, because he goes to church!

I am disgusted by the whining, mewling, self centered twits who are so miserable in their own skin that they actually give a rats posterior what the world thinks or doesn't think of them.

Grow up.

Just cowardly that anyone would believe that government is the answer.

Cops come after the fact, or haven't you figured that out yet?

That's how gov't works.

A constitutional republic cannot tolerate privilege.  Don't know about your ancestors, but mine put their butts on the line to end birthright and to give the common man rights.

Now, the homosexual commmunity and others work to get a privilege not granted we mere mortals.

One thing, always remember, make things bad enough, and there will be a backlash at the voting booth.  What comes around will go around, in terms of what is written can be . . . unwritten.

"Now, the homosexual commmunity and others work to get a privilege not granted we mere mortals."

What privilege would that be?

As a specifically named and protected group.  Apparently, the 14th Amendment and 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 9th are also insufficient.

Again, CITE THE VIOLATION OF CIVIL RIGHTS UNDER THE LAW.

...as other minorities protected in the municiple code.  Why do you find that so objectionable?

Everyone is a minority!

The color of your butt, not the character of the individual counts.

Why, even though we have the same rights, some folks need to be "special".

Be special.

Next election, that may just end.

No discrimination, that's the problem.  There is no problem.

The problem is in the minds of those seeking the additional privilege.

Again, my ancestors fought to end privilege by birth.

Do we need to do the Great American Revolution again?

We're talking about equal rights not special rights. Nobody is asking for preferential treatment..  Why are you having such a difficult time grasping this basic principle?  It's no different than the Civil Rights Act or the Americans with Disability Act.  How do you see this as someone getting special rights or privileges?

The fact that they are named and thereby set apart from.

Why do they need to be named in the first place?

The law is not comprehensive enough that the 14th Amendment does not cover any situation?

By your own admission this is not a civil rights issue, but an issue of perception and feelings.

No civil rights issue here.

Next election, this will be an issue.

Since the municipal code offers protection to other groups then why shouldn't Gays? It's an issue of prejudice and bigotry against a group of people.  That's civil rights, that's basic human rights.  Where have I said any different?

As a conservative Christian who believes that practicing a homosexual lifestyle is contrary to God's wishes - I find this piece by Mr. Bronson to be incredibly offensive.  Mr. Bronson does not speak on behalf of all Christians - Jesus Christ came to save the world, not to condemn it, and had Mr. Bronson demanded that Jesus "choose well" by choosing established churches and businesses or those who needed him the most - well, I think you know who he chose to minister to.  This ordinance is an attempt by the distracting democrats to get the "far fight" of the Republican party to say evil, hateful things - and then use it to brand all Republicans the same - it appears to be working.

 Do the 450 plus species of animals, that have sex with the same sex. Are they going to hell?

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=gay-animals-and-evolution

This is what the ACLU was founded on. This is really an anti-american organization.

The ACLU's founder, Roger Baldwin, stated: "We are for SOCIALISM, disarmament, and ultimately for abolishing the state itself... We seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and the SOLE CONTROL of those who produce wealth. COMMUNISM is the goal." (Source: Trial and Error, by Geo. Grant)

Following are some of the stated goals of the ACLU, from its own published Policy Issues:

  • the legalization of prostitution (Policy 211);

  • the defense of all pornography, including CHILD PORN, as "free speech" (Policy 4);

  • the decriminalization and legalization of all drugs (Policy 210);

  • the promotion of homosexuality (Policy 264);

  • the opposition of rating of music and movies (Policy 18);

  • opposition against parental consent of minors seeking abortion (Policy 262);

  • opposition of informed consent preceding abortion procedures (Policy 263);

  • opposition of spousal consent preceding abortion (Policy 262);

  • opposition of parental choice in children's education (Policy 80)

-- not to mention the defense and promotion of euthanasia, polygamy, government control of church institutions, gun control, tax-funded abortion, birth limitation, etc. (Policies 263, 133, 402, 47, 261, 323, 271, 91, 85).

when you cut and paste stuff, remember two things... first that it's really easy to google where you got it from, and second, that you should always make sure it's accurate before blurting it out there... so allow me to cut and paste in return:

"The ACLU views the use of children in the production of visual depictions of sexually explicit conduct as a violation of childrens' rights when such use is highly likely to cause:  a) substantial physical harm or, b) substantial and continuing emotional or psychological harm. Government quite properly has the means to protect the interests of children in these situations by the use of criminal prosecution of those persons who are likely to cause such harm to children."

So please, enough of the CHILD PORN screaming.

This is the group that has defended NAMBLA and other child porn offenders constantly in the past.  My main point is that the ACLU is about destorying the USA by trying to destory all the principles that this country is founded on. They are doing a very good job of it.

like the first amendment?  The ACLU defends everyone's first amendment rights, even the pornographers.  YOU want to take them away.

The ACLU, does not protect the rights of all only the people that have cases the side with thier political bent.

ACLU Cases Defending Religious Freedom

You hit the nail right on the head.

Good job.

Here is the "Dirty Work" Dave Bronson refers to - the ACLU's stated mission of the organization:

The ACLU is our nation's guardian of liberty, working daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and laws of the United States guarantee everyone in this country.

These rights include:

  • Your First Amendment rights - freedom of speech, association and assembly; freedom of the press, and freedom of religion.
  • Your right to equal protection under the law - protection against unlawful discrimination.
  • Your right to due process - fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake.
  • Your right to privacy - freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs.

The ACLU also works to extend rights to segments of our population that have traditionally been denied their rights, including people of color; women; lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people; prisoners; and people with disabilities.

It just sounds so evil, doesn't it?

That's why so many of their attorneys have been convicted of child porn.

Tha''s why the ACLU is the primary mouth piece for the North American Man Boy Love Association.

That's why Ruthie baby Ginsberg, a former ACLU attorney, is admant that 12 year old girls are fair play as sex toys.

Yeah, that's the ACLU we all know and abhor.

Breathable contact lenses is like your one stop shop to everything respecting contacts. I have some very useful information. Millions of Australians are rediscovering the merits of RGP lenses. Twisted! It is a long standing situation. Maybe one day I'll learn. Breathable contact lenses performed beautifully. You should be prepared to work very hard on it. RGP lenses can be very complicated and can quickly intimidate a beginner. I obviously know quite a bit in the matter of RGP lenses. You might want to give that stuff some thought. When it is on par with breathable contact lenses, reading the fine print can save you a ton of grief.
