This weekend chances are good we will take a giant step toward turning America into a country mirroring European style socialism. Our country will never be the same once government takes over health care and that is exactly what will happen if the Senate passes health care legislation this weekend.
Here’s the sad part. Alaskans will have ended up playing a major role in ushering in socialized medicine because we elected Mark Begich to the U.S. Senate. Without Begich, Obama Care cannot pass. Begich has made it clear he will go against the wishes of the majority of his constituents and instead be loyal to his party bosses and vote in favor of the Harry Reid written health care bill.

I was once voted most liberal student at Wendler...many moons ago. Then I got a job, started paying taxes, started a business and lo and behold...I had become a Conservative without even knowing it was happening. I believed in liberty and personal freedom then and I do now. What Socialism will achieve is the diminsishment of those personal liberties, as the individual has no place in Socialism. Only the masses count, and wihout the individual, there is no need for personal liberties...they only get in the way of "progress"...

That's just cancer. There are more MRI machines in Alaska with a population of around 600 thousand than in all of Canada...pop over 33 million. Alaskans, like other Americans, strongly favor health reform of the sort that the U.S. Senate, with Sen. Begich's help, will advance today. Surveys consistently show that Americans, of which most Alaskans proudly count themselves, support having the government create a new health insurance plan to compete with private health insurance plans. By a wide margin in fact. Look it up, if you're reading this you probably got the Google.
It is Sen. Murkowski who is acting contrary to the wishes of her constituents, not Sen. Begich.
But of course this site is an arm of Sen. Murkowski's campaign and therefore has no interest in reflecting reality. Because that uncomfortable reality is that Alaskans support Sen. Begich's approach, not Sen. Murkowski's.

Those countries have very high tax rates and they also spend little of their budgets on national defense. Japan can spend trillions on health care since the United States provides their security. How many nuclear submarines does Switzerland have?
I would rather pay taxes towards a government run healthcare than leave it up to private healthcare to leave us behind whenever they see an opportuntiy to increase their profit magin, dole out executive bonuses and kill the competion. Under goverment run health care we would have more opportunity for citizen oversight and the ability to petition our lawmakers to make changes in healthcare. Under our current system, healthcare industries help buy our politicians into office, monopolize the market and have thier lobbists write the legislation for them to sign. Hence the skyrocketing cost of healthcare over the last 20 years and nary a word from many of our politicians.

However, Kennedy voted against the 1957 Civil rights Act while he was a senator, as did Democrat Senator Al Gore, Sr. And after he became president, John F. Kennedy was opposed to the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King that was organized by A. Phillip Randolph who was a black Republican. President Kennedy, through his brother Attorney General Robert Kennedy, had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI on suspicion of being a Communist in order to undermine Dr. King.

And Truth is not something that any one person has a monopoly on. It can come from many sources. I have found some of the radio talk show hosts finally getting around to mentioning things that I have been aware of for years. Do not assume that all opinions expressed by all posters here are the result of hearing something from a Conservative radio show host. And if it did come from one of them, how does that invalidate the Truth thereof? Are all things stated by those you do not agreee with automatically lies and distrotion? Here's a little history...just a little. I don't want you to OD on Truth ...
It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S's: Slavery, Secession, Segregation and now Socialism.
It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860's, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950's and 1960's.
During the civil rights era of the 1960's, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs. It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools. President Eisenhower also appointed Chief Justice Earl Warren to the U.S. Supreme Court which resulted in the 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education decision ending school segregation. Much is made of Democrat President Harry Truman's issuing an Executive Order in 1948 to desegregate the military. Not mentioned is the fact that it was President Eisenhower who actually took action to effectively end segregation in the military.

This health care bill (H.R. 3590) has 2,074 pages in it and includes 51,850 lines of printing that could become law. I would like to know if he has read it yet. I have been skip reading it what a mess this will make of out our current health care....
