Time for a change

Clarity is a wonderful thing. You can be plugging along in life day-by-day thinking everything is fine, when all of a sudden out of nowhere it hits you: a moment of clarity. You start seeing things differently.

For me, times of clarity have always come as a result of my faith. Over the past 30 years my relationship with God has been much like others I've had. It grows hot and cold. I will acknowledge I am to blame for the cold spurts. I have not always prioritized my relationship with God and I can point to this as the reason for most of the problems, heartaches and troubles I've experienced.

Despite my inconstancy and unfaithfulness, God has always come through for me. He pulls me out of jam after jam. Through reading the Bible he gives me wisdom, insight and guidance.

I have also experienced times when I would get a thought that would bring such intense inner peace and clarity, I knew it was from God. Jesus explained the phenomenon this way in John 10:27. "My sheep know my voice, and I know them, and they follow me" Read more

Christian bashing reaches new heights with Ivan Moore column

By Dan Fagan

The Alaska Standard

Christian bashing is in these days, but pollster Ivan Moore took it to new levels this week with his column in The Anchorage Daily News. Moore ties in French President Nicholas Sarkozy's decision to ban the wearing of the burqa in his country to Christians in Anchorage opposing Prop 64, which creates special rights for people who like to have sex with members of their own gender. Read more

Dan Fagan Reverses Bad Decision, No Longer Requires Registration On The Alaska Standard Merely To Read Content

From Blog "Alaska Pride"

About three weeks ago, Dan Fagan, who is both KFQD's conservative shock jock and the publisher of The Alaska Standard, which has a right-of-center orientation, made a decision I considered absolutely inexplicable at the time. In addition to requiring registration to post comments, which most mainstream blogs do, he also required people to register merely to view the full content of each post.

Dan Fagan's PDS-Induced Vision of Sarah Palin

By R. A. Mansour for conservatives4palin.com

Yesterday, our prayers went out to Dan Fagan as his father struggles with cancer. Today, the gloves come off again.

Fagan has a new screed at the Alaska Standard which really should be included in any case study of Palin Derangement Syndrome (PDS). A clear symptom of PDS is the tendency to ascribe base political motives to even good decisions that Gov. Palin makes. Consequently, the PDS sufferer views Palin as evil no matter what she does.

I noted in my biographical sketch of Gov. Palin that some critics actually dismiss her courageous whistle-blowing on the unethical behavior of her own party chairman at the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (AOGCC). They laughably suggest that she quit the AOGCC and turned in her own party chairman in order to make herself look good. That's like suggesting that a firefighter ran into a burning building to rescue an infant because he knew he would get a medal! The firefighter had no idea whether or not he would survive the fire, and Sarah Palin had no idea whether or not she would survive her whistle-blowing. But the PDS sufferer is impervious to such logic. No matter what Palin does, it's for base political calculation. Read more

Character and faith pay off in all stages of life

home careBy Dan Fagan

The beginning of life is much like the end. From the moment life begins, we are completely dependent on others. Through the time in our mother's womb to birth and even after that. The older we get, the less dependant we become.

The opposite is true with the end of life. For those who die a slow death because of old age or a terminal disease, the process can be painful to watch. It's sad watching an adult who has lived a life of strength, freedom and independence become more and more dependent on others. Read more

The final goodbye

heavenBy Dan Fagan

As I write this it is close to midnight on Saturday. I will soon board a plane to New Orleans to say goodbye to my dad.

Doctors gave my dad three weeks to three months to live about five months ago. My dad has always been a fighter, but the signs of his terminal cancer are beginning to show. He gets tired easily and sleeps most of the time. After a five-minute conversation he becomes too weak to talk.

I am not worried about my father. He has prepared himself for eternity with his creator. He has made things right and is ready to go.

I am worried about my mother. This has been tough on her having to wait on my dad just about 24/7 for five months straight. My sisters have helped some but they have their own families to take care of. I hope I can help relieve the burden from my mother just a little during my visit. Read more

Dan Fagan's Sunday e-mails

angryBy Dan Fagan

The following is a small sampling of my e-mail inbox this morning.

WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT

Fagan,
Just man up and admit it you pussie, you're a Palin hater. So the kids dad gets him a job, so what scumbag. I can tell you what a loser most everyone I talk to thinks you are. I hope I get the chance to see your fathead in pubic sometime.

Dan,

Thank-you for your reporting on "the column on Levi Johnson". I'm a retired teacher that works with at risk students that would love the same opportunity that was given this young man, but my students are told that they must meet the requirements (GED or HS Diploma) beforehand in order to even be considered. You speak for them and give those students hope that it's a fair process and done by the book.

Warm Wishes.

Why I am wearing this suit

By Dan Fagan

dan fagan as santaI like to say things that are funny. I rarely do but when I do I like it. I fear I like it too much. And when you like something too much, you usually get in trouble.

Take for instance on my radio show last week. I got involved with a secret Santa program at the office. Long story short, in a lame attempt to be funny, I made fun of the gift my secret Santa gave me. Read more

Anchorage Press reports on The Alaska Standard

The following is an excerpt from the current weekly, The Anchorage Press,

Now there’s another Alaska-centric online news outlet, launched by conservative talk radio and television host Dan Fagan, called The Alaska Standard. The similarities between Fagan’s site’s name and national conservative magazine The Weekly Standard are likely purposeful; The Alaska Standard offers news and commentary with a right-wing bent, listing contributors such as Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski, just-elected state Representative Charisse Millett, fellow conservative radio jock Mike Porcaro, and Republican pollster Dave Dittman, just to name a few.
